Advice: Buy a Car

How do I get there?
Publicroutes.com | Bus, Subway, Driving Directions and Maps

Get on the Bus

If you don't mind the often intimidating company, the bus really is the fastest way to get around for the money. Bus fare is $1.25, and the St Charles and Freret bus lines are your best options. To check out the city-wide bus routes, go to:

A Street Car Named Slow and Unreliable
Fare: $1.25 (exact change only)

The St Charles Streetcar line is not fully operational yet, but should be completely up and running by Spring 2007. Until then, you'll have to take the bus.

Drivin' Kid Charlemagne
To state the obvious, driving your own car is the best way to get around. Even if you're a freshman, you can park on Broadway, St. Charles, or find an upperclassman to get a parking pass for you. There is way more to this city than the bubble of campus and no better way to discover it than in your own car (or someone else's...don't forget to suck up to your car-owning friends)

Helpful Hints:
1) Get the club.
2) Slow down for pot holes.
3) For mechanics, try Calahan on Freret or the place at Earheart and Fern.
4) For god's sake, don't drink and drive, we've all got loved ones out there.

DRUNK BUS
At long last Tulane has a shuttle that some people might actually want to ride. Unlike the old empty shuttle busses, the new shuttle services will take you to and from locations further than a mile from campus and locations other than residences. This is a very good thing. Here's how it breaks down...

The shuttle costs $.75 a head and is only payable with a Tulane debit card. Your non-tulane student friends can ride with you as long as you pay for them with debit. No food, drinks, or coolers allowed. They won't let you on the bus if you're too wasted to walk (because in that case you're much better off on a sidewalk in the quarter...uhh, what). Do what the driver says, and don't be rowdy on the bus or the driver will throw you off. - Not the best rules I've ever heard, but I can live with those terms.

There are two shuttles and they will only stop at the following stops at the following times.

Uptown Bus Wednesday-Saturday, begining at 4PM

-Corner of Freret + Mcallister, on the :00 and :30
-Starbucks on Maple, on the :06 and :36
-Carrollton + Willow, on the :13 and :43
-Carrolton + Oak, on the :16 and :46
-In front of Madigans, on the :20 and :50

The last bus rolls at 3:30AM and gets back to campus at 4AM.

Downtown Bus Friday and Saturday only, begining at 8PM.

-In front of the UC at the top of the hour
-Back of Campus at Carrolton, on the :05
-Touro Synagogue (Copelands/Fat Harry's), on the :15
-Zion Lutheran Church (Near Red Room), on the :21
-St. Charles Athletic (Bravo/Avenue Pub), on the :29
-Contemporary Arts Center ONLY AS REQUESTED, on the :30
-St. Joseph + St. Peters (Howlin' Wolf), on the :36
-Canal Place Bus Stop (Harrah's), on the :42
-Chateau Sonesta (Bourbon + Canal), on the :47

Again, the last bus rolls at 3AM and gets in at 4AM. In both cases there will be extra service for Mardi Gras from the big Sunday to Tuesday.
